Smile Transforming Winston-Salem Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic dentistry is often considered “shallow,” but at the end of the day, even our preventive and restorative treatments focus on helping patients achieve and maintain a smile that looks as good as it feels. Studies show that people who are confident about the appearance of their smiles are more likely to care for them adequately. Additionally, patients who are confident about their smiles share those smiles more frequently, and a recent University of California Berkley study showed that those who smile more often are healthier and live longer. If you’re unhappy with any aspect of your smile, we invite you to contact Dr. Barclay Setzer or Dr. Michael Boyles to find out more about our comprehensive dentistry services.
Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are an excellent option for those patients who wish to correct a number of cosmetic flaws quickly. Crafted from thin sheaths of dental grade porcelain, veneers adhere to the front facing surface of teeth concealing chips, cracks, gaps, or stains with one treatment. The procedure itself is fairly straightforward. We remove a minimal amount of enamel from the front of teeth so the veneer will blend seamlessly into the natural smile line. Then, we capture impressions of the prepared teeth that will be used by our lab to create a custom veneer. We place a temporary veneer to protect teeth until the veneers can be fabricated. When the final restoration is completed, patients return to exchange their temporary for a custom veneer.
Cosmetic Bonding
Cosmetic dental bonding uses the same high quality composite resin we utilize for tooth-colored filings to conceal or correct smile flaws. Because very little if any natural structure is removed in preparation for this treatment, in most cases, the procedure is reversible. The process typically only takes one visit to complete and is significantly more affordable compared with other cosmetic or restorative treatment options. We simply apply a thin layer of composite resin to the surface of teeth. Then, we shape the resin to correct chips or gaps and conceal stains and other smile flaws. We then use a curing light to harden the resin into place.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening may be the most popular cosmetic dentistry service available. Next time you’re at the grocery store or pharmacy, take a walk down the oral hygiene aisle. You’ll be shocked to see the number of whitening toothpastes, mouth rinses, strips, and gels. These products promise dramatic smile transformations. Unfortunately, the store bought whitening products are typically unable to deliver on these promises. Dr. Setzer and Dr. Boyles offer professional grade take-home whitening kits that help patients brighten smiles after about two weeks of daily use.
